I write about the dismissed and the disparaged.

I write about the magical.

I write about invisible heroes.

I know quite a few invisible heroes.

People who aren’t on anyone’s checklist, but could do, do do great things – even if few others notice, or care.

I had the privilege to meet and interview these invisible heroes, in my work as a journalist.

They are, for the most part, nothing like the narrow vision of heroes portrayed in popular culture.

Single mothers.

Elderly women keeping their communities alive.

Refugees escaping unimaginable horrors.

As a writer, I want to make people like this into visible heroes.

And as a writer, I also love elements of magic and fantasy. Who says you can’t combine the two?

Adult fairy tales.

That is what my writing has been called.

And on that note, let me introduce my debut novel…

How the Invisible Woman Learned to Fly

As a middle-aged woman, Marcie Blanchard is mostly ignored by the people in her life, but that might not be all bad – maybe her invisibility will shield her when her she, and the talking flying carpet living under her garden shed, attempt a dangerous rescue halfway around the world.
